A long/lightweight cardigan is the perfect layering piece as we transition from spring to summer. This Gap cardigan comes in so many colors that I may have to pick up more than one!
Perfect office sweater. Once these go on sale, I’m buying one! :)
I finally busted out my spring/summer clothing this past weekend! I’ve missed the bright colors and fun patterns :)
Today’s a flash-back-to-college day: I’m sporting my old college jewelry, hairstyle and color combo (love the turquoise and brown).
Earrings, sweater and cardigan all from Target.
Necklace from my aunt.
The Limited has a helpful section on their site showing styling ideas/tips in the color trends of the season: Tonal, Pop, Bold & Stripes. See more here.
Another reason The Limited is one of my favorite stores.
I can’t believe I’ve never heard of Forever 21’s Love21 Collection. It debuted in 2009 and caters more toward the professional woman in her 20s and 30s. During my lunch break today, I browsed through some of the clothing available, and much of it was a step up from F21’s usual youthful style.
These two dresses and blazers are my favorite — I love the colors!!!
Today’s temps have reached the mid-60s here in KC! It’s amazing, considering it’s only January. So, to celebrate the good weather, I winterized a summery dress from my closet, by simply adding black tights, a black blazer and black booties to it (and no coat!!).
The photo on the left was taken last August and shows its “summery” style (and Nancy Drew).
The photo on the right was taken this morning as I was rushing out the door (parden my unkempt room!).
I like this dress works well in both winter and summer. It’s made with a festive, sateen material that reminds me of winter holidays. However, its bright turquoise and white color remind me of spring/summer.
I found this skirt at Kohl’s yesterday in my size marked down to 90 percent off! So, instead of $44, it cost $4.40. It fits great and makes a terrific addition to my work wardrobe. (I’m wearing it right now).
As Jaclyn pointed out, I love it when I can find a great skirt/dress/any attire that costs the same as a latte!
This coat is absolutely lovely.

I love everything about this outfit.

I love everything about this outfit. Especially the shoes.
Mixed prints.

I kinda like this mixing prints trend. I’ll try it at work later this week and see how it flies.
One of the least expensive and most fun ways to perk up your look is with a nail polish change. Although Essie’s Fall 2011 collection might take some getting used to after the bright pinks, reds and blues I’ve been wearing all spring and summer, I’m dying for the greenish gray Power Clutch and the camel Case Study shade.
(Clockwise, from top left)
- Carry On, $8 - “Deep romantic burgundy”
- Case Study, $8 - “Rich camel beige”
- Glamour Purse, $8 - “Alluring almond taupe”
- Very Structured, $8 - “Classic burnt sienna”
- Power Clutch, $8 - “Striking deep gray green”
- Lady Like, $8 - “Elegant soft mauve”
Which shades are your favorite?
Ooooooo, I like!!
But …. I’m not sure if I’m willing to spend $8 on a single bottle of nail polish, when I can find a very similar shade for $2.
Is there an incentive for paying more for nail polish? What does the Essie (or OPI) brand have that, say, Sally Hanson doesn’t? If it lasts longer, then I maybe would spend the extra bucks. But if it’s just for the brand, then no thank you!
These are the capris I bought at Macy’s last weekend. I’m wearing them right now at work… they are soooo comfortable, plus they have a great slimming effect.
This weekend only, they’re on sale for $26.99!! (Or, with Macy’s coupons, even less!)

When I think 1950s, early 1960s (ala Mad Men era) fashion, I think of this style dress. Lovely — and something I’d totally wear. (Well, that random black horizontal line would have to go first…)
So when I heard that Banana Republic was coming out with their own Mad Men-inspired line, I was excited.
Some of the woman’s styles are kinda cute (emphasis on some), but, in my opinion, not Mad Men-inspired. At all. In fact, they largely resemble what Banana typically produces. And, hate to say it, but the designs are kind of … drab.

The men’s line, on the other hand, is Mad Men to a tee. Mmmm.

I scored these scarves for next to nothing at the Hillcrest Thrift Shop! The Oscar de la Renta scarf cost only $1. (Seriously!) and the Vera Neumann scarf ran only $2. Clearly, whoever prices items didn’t know designer labels!!
(By the way, Vera Neumann is a pretty unique designer…. check out her story here).
Lastly, I found a pretty maroon and coral scarf for $2 … the tag had been cut off, but it’s still lovely nonetheless.
About Hillcrest Thrift and Thrifting in Kansas City.
Kansas City is known for its plethora of thrift shops. I’ve been to a few, and most have been mediocre at best. However, the Hillcrest Thrift Shop (at North 64th Street and I-29) has certainly stood out among the rest.
The shop is staffed by volunteers, and proceeds benefit transitional housing. The shop is maintained very well — everything is clean and organized. I find the main thing that deters me from many thrift shops is the disorder and musty smell many have. Not this one!
There are two floors to Hillcrest — the main floor consists of clothing, housewares, artwork, jewelry, etc. Pretty much anything you can think of. The basement includes furniture (some really neat stuff), along with miscellaneous goods — Christmas decorations, college sportswear (no Illini last I checked boo), old paperbacks, etc.
If you’re in KC, check it out when you can! (Bonus: It’s right by Hen House, Hy-Vee, two Caribou Coffees and one Starbucks).
