1. Home Goods is the place to go for your autumn decorating needs!
All Hallowe’en Greetings door hanger, $7.99, Anyone who knows me well knows that I’m really into postcards from the Golden Age of Postcards (1904-1914). Inspired from a college magazine class, I’ve written four feature articles on old postcards for three magazines. I love this image — I’m almost positive that same postcard is in my family’s postcard collection!
Giant Autumn Coffee Mug, $3.99, For drinking the above coffee in, of course. I’m so excited!
Pumpkin Pie Candle, $3.99, It smells awesome. My apartment is 69 degrees, and if it drops lower, I really don’t want to turn the heat on. This will make a nicely scented alternative!
Pumpkin Pie Mocha Coffee, $4.99, Yum. I’m so excited to try this! I hope it’s delicious, because healthy it is not. Oh well!

  2. Yesterday afternoon, Kansas City was hot and windy (like really windy) with weather reports all over KC predicting possible thunderstorms and tornadoes come sunset.
The storms missed us. The tornado hit a town a couple hours north. Instead, the weather dipped down to a comfortable 74 with a light breeze and low humidity. The weather was perfect. Matt came over for dinner and afterward we took a walk to my mailbox, located a few buildings away.
On our way back, I spied our neighborhood playground. Instantly, I reverted back to childhood as I dashed through the dewy lawn in flip flops and jumped on a swing. Matt followed suit, though not nearly as enthusiastically. I pumped my legs, stretching for the sky, as I flew higher and higher in the air. We swang while watching very distant lightening and neighbors driving in and out, going on with their lives. We talked about childhood playground games and antics and the like, and I thought of my old blue swing set growing up in Wheaton.
After five minutes of childhood, reality struck. The swing was too tight; its metal smelled up my hand. And instead of jumping off the swing at my highest peak and doing a split and turn in mid-air before solidly landing on my feet as I once did, I did a simple jump at a more conservative height. At least I jumped. And I’m excited to go back more this summer!
It was a nice night :)
A post on last night’s super delicious, healthy, affordable AND fast dinner recipe coming up tonight!!

  3. happy birthday grandma!

    Happy birthday Grandma!

My uncle, a photographer, put this collage together and sent it to the whole family.

My grandma was pretty awesome. She has an impressive story and she was an incredible cartoonist. Her artwork decorates my apartment.

    Miss you girl!

  4. Happy Birthday, Papa.
I miss you.

  5. White Christmas - Snow

I saw this movie for the first time ever last weekend with Matt. Yes, really, I’ve never seen it before. A new Christmas favorite? Absolutely!

  6. This postcard was sent exactly 100 years ago.
Last year, I posted a different vintage postcard daily in December. For more information about this card, click here.

  8. [Best part of] It’s a Wonderful Life

    [I love Jimmy Stewart.]

Strange, isn’t it? Each man’s life touches so many other lives. When he isn’t around he leaves an awful hole, doesn’t he?

  11. Happy birthday J and K!
My cousins “J” and “K”, who were like brothers to me growing up, both had birthdays recently. “J”, on the left, turned 19 on Wednesday, and “K”, on the right, turns the big 21  today. Wooo.

  14. The Odd Couple theme

I ordered the first season of what may very well be one of the greatest comedy shows ever made, The Odd Couple. The premise? Two divorced men, who are friends, become roommates. The caveat? One, Oscar, is a complete slob. The other, Felix, is an OCD perfectionist. I wish the reruns played here. :(

  15. Gone with the Wind

Matt and I watched Gone with the Wind this weekend. I’ve seen the movie many times, but not recently. Oh my goodness, I forgot how sad it is. I was crying for the final 20 minutes nonstop.
